Press release of the Danish Committee for a Free Iraq, March 19, 2005

On the occasion of the second anniversary of the war against Iraq, Carsten Kofoed, spokesman of the Danish Committee for a Free Iraq, states:

“This is a day on which I think that the millions of people, who are taking to the streets all over the world, demanding the immediate end of the occupation of Iraq, are feeling both grief, anger and optimism,” says Carsten Kofoed.

“The grief is due to the fact that far more than 100,000 Iraqis and more than 1500 foreign soldiers have lost their lives because of the according to the UN Charter illegal war, which the US and some handfuls of vassal states, including Denmark, launched against Iraq two years ago. All these people would have been alive today, maybe been parents, maybe grandparents, maybe just started in school, if not the US-led war mafia had thumbed its nose at all international law and attacked Iraq,” Carsten Kofoed declares.

“Bush, Blair and Fogh are war criminals, who must be put on trial in the same way as the Nazi leaders, who also waged unprovoked war of aggression, were after the Second World War,” Carsten Kofoed continues.

“While the aggression was launched by propagating lies about Iraq’s weapons of mass destruction, its connections with Al-Qaida and Saddam Hussein being an urgent danger to world peace, new lies are constantly being added. The recent parliamentary election in Iraq, which was controlled by the occupying power, is being described as “democracy”. Occupied Iraq is being called “sovereign”. The resistance, the internationally recognized right of the Iraqis to defend themselves, their legitimate answer to the illegal war of the aggressors, is being called “terrorism”. Everything concerning Iraq is being turned upside down,” Carsten Kofoed says.

“As regards peace in Iraq, this will never happen until the last occupier has left the country. Therefore, the Danish occupation troops must return to Denmark immediately before they kill even more Iraqis, disgrace the name of Denmark further or end up in black body bags themselves. The hundreds of millions of Danish krones, which the Danish occupation troops have cost so far, should be used on life, on schools, on the elderly, on creating jobs, on improving the life of people, not on depriving them of it. The occupying power is by no means a part of the solution in Iraq because it is itself the cause of all Iraq’s problems. It must leave Iraq immediately so the Iraqis can decide, without any interference, what they want to do with their own country. This is their democratic right,” Carsten Kofoed points out.

“Let me on this day salute all the martyrs, who have fallen in the struggle for the freedom of their country. I also send the warmest greetings to all Iraqi patriots and freedom fighters, who are languishing in the prisons of the occupying power, and to their families. Iraqi resistance fighters, you are fighting a heroic and just struggle for the liberation of Iraq. You are fighting the US-led tormentors, these inhuman, racist beasts, who have invaded and destroyed your great fatherland in order to steal all the riches of the Iraqi people, and who are torturing your men, raping your women and killing your children. As true heroes and in a David’s struggle against Goliath, you are defending your country. You have sent one oil robber after another, wounded and humiliated, out of your Iraq by following the successful, armed road, and you are on the way to the final victory: the liberation. You have hindered that the US fascists have been able to extend their terror war against other countries in the region and in the world by pinning them in Iraq. You are the biggest peace-creating force in the world today, supported and admired by all people, who are fighting imperialism, Zionism, repression and plunder, because you are fighting the world’s number one terrorist, war maker and oppressor, the US, which wants to dictate the whole world by war. With certainty you will be victorious because you possess the decisive weapon: the support of the people. Long live you! Victory to the Iraqi resistance!,” concludes Carsten Kofoed.
